replication fork embroidery • 2020
When a cell replicates its DNA, the stakes are incredibly high: a single mistake in a newly created DNA molecule could be enough to create a fatal mutation! Thus, this process is far from trivial and involves the coordinated effort of dozens of proteins. Recent discoveries shed light on the fascinating process of DNA replication and inspired me to create this embroidery depicting an eukaryotic replication fork in action. The reference figure was adopted from Kurth & O'Donnell, 2013.
This piece won first place in 'Science Art Exhibit' at the Graduate Student Research Symposium at Tufts University in June 2020.
